For my walk at LilCuba and to celebrate my amazing vacations I created a new outfit in traditional cubinian style using:
VIRTUE Vivian dress
ARKONA Fairytale shawl
MAJESTY Dianna headwrap
ON A LARK Platform sandals
SLAVIA Ursula crown and Alisa nails&rings
TENTACIO flowers
HEARTSDALE Boho jewelry set
GOOD FAIRY Nyra bracelets
and a little bunny baby in my hand from CryBunBun - BunniMania Holdable Bunny
Tara's outfit is a mix of a dress for a town girl, which Cubans call "guajira" and a headdress inspired by their religious saints. Simple and elegant, big ruffles and headwrap are recognizable details of Cuban style.
RL info about national cloth: Cuban national clothes are not much different from Latin American ones. Women's dresses are traditionally sewn with a large number of flounces, frills, ruffles, and assemblies. It is believed that the more magnificent and brighter the dress, the more expensive and beautiful it is. The national costumes of Cuban women, bright, colorful, and expressive, seem to embody the three main rhythms to which they dance on this island - habanera, samba, and guajira. Models and ornaments indicate that the Cuban style of clothing was heavily influenced by Spanish and African traditional ideas about female beauty and elegance. Since Cuba is a hot and sultry country with little annual rainfall, people here dress mainly in linen and cotton clothes, which perfectly protect them from intense sunlight.
My friend Girasol joined me for some time at Lil Cuba. She came from Mexico to visit her friends here and we met at Plaza and walked around. Sure, she knows a lot about all around and I have asked her an important question:
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CUBA FROM MEXICO?
To me, as a resident of far away country in the north, it is very curious to learn about other cultures and countries. In my mind, Cuba and Mexico are almost the same, as both countries are very close on the world map.
While we walked Gisasol was explaining to me...
Girasol: Mexico and Cuba have many differences, although we have some influece they are unique in lots of ways.
For example in religion. Mexico is mostly catholic and, even if cuban people have catholic beleifs and respect, their main religion is Yoruba. In La Habana, the capital of cuba there is a street only to dance Rumba and dances dedicated to the Gods.
Our national / traditional music is also different. The Son is like the "father" of rythms there, from it was developed the Salsa, Timba, Guaguancó and i dare to say reggae has its roots in this too. Many latin countries adopted this and made their own versions like Colombia, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
For us in Mexico our traditional music is Ranchero (Mariachi) and have also adopted some Salsa and Son (Danzon in Mexico).
In Cuba all education is from state, there are no private schools but they do educate the best Doctors and Artists (dancers, musicians, singers, writers, etc.)
In Economy they have two currencies one for local people and other for tourists to use, no other currency is allowed. We only have the mexican peso and do accept other currencies.
I can say Cuba is one of the most safe countries in the world, which i cannot say about mine sadly.
Besides art and music, Cuba is also known for their rum and cigars.
RL info: Cuba is a country that has many many races mixed. It was "built" with slaves brought from Africa (people of dark skin color) + Spanish conquerors at first. Then they also have a big mix with Russia and some less with Asia. As the black slaves when they were taken and sent by ship to Brasil and Cuba, they were not allowed at first to profess their religion openly. So they did a schism with the Catholic religion, so for example goddess, Oshun I made is the Virgin of Charity patroness of Cuba, they do some catholic belief but their main religion is Yorub, they invented the Salsa, also Cuba is well-known over the world as main manufacturers of rum and cigars.
Viva Cuba!
